We found this giant moth at Burke’s baseball game last week. I didn’t have my camera so I attempted one of our macro shots with my iPhone. I think my shaky hands prevented us from capturing it well, but nonetheless, it was a fascinating bug to find!
Imagine being really really really thirsty. Imagine having no water. And the minute you stop and think about how thirsty you are and that you have no water, you get even thirstier.
This is the game we are playing right now with our animals. We’ve had little to no rain for at least 8 weeks, if not more. It’s been so long, we’ve lost count.
No rain means no grass. No grass means no food for the animals. No food for the animals means…well, it means a lot of things, but most of all, it means the prospect of losing animals or at the very least, having to sell them. Having to sell animals means the prospect of no Sweetlove Farm. Or having to start all over next season.
Finley turned 7 yesterday. Oh what a day! It was a great day filled with early morning breakfast with Mama, accompanying Mama to work to hang out until lunch at her favorite place, Zen Zero (Thai food) with all of us (except our Loretta, of course) and then a surprise trip to the bike store to get her a new “bike with a basket” (which was on her sweet little hand-written birthday list). We rounded out the fun-packed day with a trip to the pool and then home for giant-sized homemade oatmeal cranberry cookies (another favorite) and watching a movie as a family! Loved every minute of this day!
Look at that sweet smile. Don’t ya just wanna squeeze her?!
Last week, Burke gave a speech for a 4H Prince competition (in front of a room of people, including 2 judges) in which he had to say in 3 minutes or less what he would take if he had 5 minutes before a natural disaster occurred?
His answer? His two baby blankets that he’s had since he was born! Most of the other boys (about 11 of them) named off a long list of survival kit things - money, water, first aid kit, etc. Burke was the only one who chose one specific thing and made the entire speech about that one thing. He did a great job and even if he doesn’t win, what a great experience for him!
(He looked pretty spiffy too, minus his wrinkled blue tie!)
